MACHINEGUN AND THE CLENET ROADSTER

Dennis and I had a meeting today for the Lincoln Park MC5 50th Anniversary Celebration coming up July 11-12, 2015. Story on that coming soon...But afterward we stopped for a coffee at our favorite coffee shop Tongue's Coffee in Wyandotte, MI. Parked out front was a very cool classic Clenet Roadster.

FYI...(Dennis cracked a bone in his right arm while he was on vacation, so you can see his temporary cast in the photos)

At first we thought it was an MG or Duesenberg but it was a Clenet. Also we thought the car had a female passenger waiting alone for the driver to return!

It was kind of spooky to discover the passenger was a mannequin....

I asked Dennis to pose with the car and the "lady" LOL! There was an elderly gentleman sitting outside the coffee shop watching us play with the camera and the car.  He spoke to Dennis as we passed by and told him that he was as CRAZY as ME.....we laughed..

While we were eating dinner at Nanna's I asked the waitress if she knew who owned the cool car and she told me that the elderly man sitting there was the owner! So we had to meet him. His name is Bob and he is 85 years young. He said he bought this Clenet 4 years ago and put 20k into fixing the body. It sure is a beauty! Dennis dressed in all black matched the Clenet perfectly!

Here is the Clenet owner Bob. I asked him why he had the mannequin but he just smiled and kind of winked at me... xRK

THE SECRETS: 6 NEW MUSIC VIDEOS FROM BOB SLAP

Bob Slap is compiling his musical history for a new web page and created these videos to add to it.

I’m Home!!!

The story of life on the road from Detroit to LA to NY…………This tune has a lotta WHO and MC5 influence…….12 string on this again sounds very 60’s ala McGuinn……..MGT gets a chance to do some pounding on this one!!!!! Bob Slap on lead vocal, Charlie Bell backup vocals…..

Escape

A little melodic pop tune we did with some nice vocals. We could rock hard but we could also play the subtle stuff, so that was the great strength of the band……..we tried a little of everything…….Bob Slap on lead vocal, Charlie on Backup vocal…….

Ain't Life a Bitch

Another wild & crazy tune………Charlie Bell on lead vocal, bass and Taurus pedals in the bridge….OK this tune starts fast and goes from there…….Bob Slap throws in some sonic guitar explosions while MGT keeps it all together……..this is really a very positive tune……..”don’t take anything too serious, it will only get you down”

I'll Always Love You

Dennis and Charlie brought this little love song in………I added a little jazz riff, and the reggae in the verse and we had a rock/reggae hit here…….just never released it……Charlie Bell on lead vocal, MGT and Bob Slap on backup vocals.

Modern Medicine

A tune about the prescription drug epidemic in LA in the 70’s and the high cost of healthcare………Little did I know the tune is just as relevant today, after the oxy pain clinic craze, plastic surgery everywhere, and still the extreme cost of healthcare. This is the straight ahead hard rock version with Dennis kickin’ it off………………………………Bob Slap on lead vocal/slide guitar

Girl Crazy

A great retro 60’s party tune……featuring the 12 string guitar and a little La Bamba/Good Lovin’ groove that works pretty well here……Charlie Bell and Dennis lay it down thick, so it’s pretty easy for me to add a little Rickenbacker touch. Bob Slap on lead vocal and Charlie and Dennis on backup……..I ain’t lazy, I’m just girl crazy!!!!!

MACHINEGUN'S PROFILE ON DETROIT ROCKNROLL MAGAZINE!

Early Years

Born in Detroit, then raised in Lincoln Park, Michigan Dennis Thompson grew up in a hardworking family. His father John, worked very long hours in order to provide a life of more than just the necessities for his wife and three children, Pete, Donna, and Dennis.

"My father worked two jobs at the time to earn enough money to pay for all expenses to obtain my degree. I loved my father but had a healthy fear of not succeeding in his eyes. Both my older brother and sister had declined my father's wishes to attend college. The pressure fell to me to totally succeed in his vision of a better life for me in becoming a well educated white collar person with a degree or two.

This became a task that I felt compelled to complete. Simple as that... I was not at all comfortable with my choice of a chemical engineering major. It felt to me to be more of my father’s preferred choice for me. So there was tremendous pressure to succeed at school while at a loss for my own career choice. All the while I adored rock music and playing my drums." -D

Following his father's lead, young Dennis loved working with his hands. Dennis began drumming at age four but also loved school (though he was described in report cards as "disruptive") He loved to entertain his classmates and hear their peels of laughter.

Dennis is also a very capable auto mechanic, he loved studying physics/math and later became a CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Programmer and Set Up Man. He also did work on prototype parts for the F15 Eagle and M1A1 Abrams Tank and engine blocks for the heavy duty D-9 Caterpillar engine. How the automotive engine is built and functions is an art form to him.ne described the inner working of the automobile big block car motor to me just describing the parts with his hands and using descriptive words. It was an amazing thing to witness. It was like watching a ballet! His hands were very graceful... despite the many years of abuse via: beating them bloody,  then taping them up to keep playing the drums". -KM
